ATLANTIC CITY  to  NEW YORK CITY

Up at dawn again.  I wanted to get to the Statue of Liberty to anchor for the night but without wind
it didn't look like we'd make it before dark.   We had to motor all the way to New York Harbour.

On our way up the New Jersey coast we passed several amusement parks right on the beach.

The way things were going, it looked like we'd just anchor off Sandy Hook and head up the Hudson in the morning.  We had motored all day without any wind, but just as we entered Lower New York Harbour, a thunderstorm passed in front or us headed for Long Island.  The winds picked up to 25 knots, gusting to over 30 and we charged up the lower harbour at 11 knots on a beam reach.

The winds dropped off to nothing after the storm passed and we sailed quietly up to the foot of the Statue of Liberty as the sun was setting.  It was a peaceful anchorage after the ferries stopped running.  We shared the anchorage with one other sailboat.  A Canadian monohull.  From this anchorage you can clearly see all the landmarks...the Brooklyn Bridge, the Narrows Bridge, the Empire State Building, the World Trade Center...
